University of York – Zhejiang University Set-up a Joint Lab for Cognitive Radio and Green Communications
Date released: 16th April 2010

University of York and Zhejiang University, both founding WUN CogCom members, have recently established a jointly run lab for Cognitive Radio and Green Communications. The agreement, signed by York’s Vice Chancellor Prof Brian Cantor and Zhejiang’s President Prof Wei Yang, comes after concluding discussions during the recent visit to Zhejiang University by members of the University. The purpose of the lab is to capitalise on the high levels of complementary activities underway at both institutions. A continuous presence of visiting staff and students at the corresponding institutions is foreseen, along with joint supervision of PhD students, and joint projects. First meeting of WUN Cognitive Communications Consortium
Date released: 15th January 2009

The University of York hosted the first two-day meeting of the WUN Cognitive Communications Consortium on 8th and 9th January 2009. Over thirty delegates from sixteen global academic and industrial partners came together to discuss collaboration on future research that aims to apply cognition to communications systems, which will significantly enhance the capability of wireless devices in the how they access the radio spectrum and form networks. The multi-disciplinary activity incorporates the fields of wireless communications, distributed artificial intelligence, applied electromagnetics, and implementation. The Consortium is led by Dr David Grace at the University of York, with logistical and financial support coming from the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), a grouping of 18 universities worldwide, which has been established to help foster research collaboration.
